PURPOSES FOR FASTING

In Isaiah 58 (Fasting Chapter) gives a veritable laundry list of warnings as well as positive results that can occur when we submit ourselves to the discipline of fasting. There are kinds of fasts that do not please God and fasts he desires. In Isaiah 58:3,-5 God says is that they ignored the way fasting should change their lives, treating it as an empty ritual. God was not pleased because all of the fasting was on a personal dimension. Fasting is a form of worship to God not just to gratify ourselves but also to become empowered to change the world! God goes on to specify the kind of fast he chooses. Purpose: Is. 58:6 "to loose the bands of wickedness"-freeing ourselves and others from addictions to sin. To"undo the heavy burdens"-to solve problems, inviting the Holy Spirit's aid in lifting loads and overcoming barriers that keep ourselves and our loved ones from walking joyfully with the Lord. To "let the oppressed (physically and spiritually) go free"-for revival and soul winning, identify with people everywhere enslaved literally by sin and to pray to be used of God to bring people out of the kingdom of darkness and into God's marvelous light."To break every yoke"-conquering the mental and emotional problems that would control our lives and returning control to the Lord. "To share bread with the hungry" and to care for the poor-to meet the humanitarian needs of others."To allow God's light (to) break forth like the morning" Is. 58:8, bringing clearer perspective and insight as we make crucial decisions. So "thine health shall spring forth"-to gain a healthier life or for healing. That "your righteousness shall go before you" (Is.58:8)-that our testimonies and influences for Jesus will be enhanced before others. That "the glory of the Lord" will protect us from the the evil one.

FOUR KINDS OF FASTING-Normal Fast is going without food for a definite period during which you ingest only liquids(water/juice). The duration can be as you choose. The absolute fast allows no food or water at all. The partial fast is one that omits certain foods or on a schedule that includes limited eating. A rotational fast consists of eating or omitting certain families of foods for designated periods. Physical benefits of fasting permits the body to rid itself of toxins build up in the body as a result of chemicals in the air, water, food, stress. The body seeks to get rid of these toxins and releases them from the tissues. Fasting gives the body the a rest to recover and heal. Fasting helps preserve the aging process, cleanses the blood, rebuilds the immune system, helps to fight illness, and accelerates the healing process.
